Stop the deposit before it leaves the account.

A gambling block declines the payment at your bank, whatever you have talked yourself into. Some banks have one. Most of the big US ones don't, and say so nowhere — so here is which is which, how long each block takes to lift, and what actually works at the banks that offer nothing.

At a glance

Of the 16 banks and payment apps compared here as of August 24, 2026, 3 publish a gambling-specific block — Monzo and Starling Bank and TSB, both UK app banks. None of the 13 US institutions listed offers a self-service gambling toggle on its own support pages; what they offer instead is a card lock, which comes off in a tap. The delay before a block can be lifted is the only feature that does any work, and a lock has none.

"Cooling-off" is how long you wait after asking for the block to come off. It is the number worth choosing a bank on.

What if my bank doesn't have one?

Then stop looking for a setting that isn't there, and build the block out of the layers that do exist. Every page below says what its bank can and cannot stop, and gives the moves that work instead — none of them require the bank's cooperation.

A card block is one layer, not the plan

Payment controls differ in scope. Check whether yours covers transfers, cash withdrawals and payments through another provider. Other options include: self-exclusion inside each betting app, your state's self-exclusion program where one exists, and a device-level blocker. The full walkthrough is in how to block gambling transactions on your bank account — and if you need the number that settles it, work out what a year of this costs.

Frequently asked questions

Which banks actually have a gambling block?
Of the 16 banks and payment apps compared here as of August 24, 2026, 3 publish a gambling-specific block: Monzo and Starling Bank and TSB. These entries describe UK products. The linked sources do not establish a self-service gambling toggle for the US products in this comparison. Check each guide’s market and product scope.
Why don't US banks offer a gambling block?
Several US providers document general card locks. Availability of a gambling-specific control must be checked for your account; a bank policy or cash-advance fee is not the same as a control you can enable.
How long does a bank gambling block take to turn off?
That delay is the only part that matters, and it is the reason a card lock is not a substitute — a lock comes off in a tap. Monzo: 2 days to 1 year — you choose. Starling Bank: 48 hours, fixed. TSB: 48 hours, fixed. Monzo lets you choose the length yourself — take the longest one you can stomach.
Will a gambling block stop crypto casino deposits?
Do not assume so. Coverage depends on the control and transaction classification. A card block does not necessarily stop transfers, cash withdrawals or payments through another provider.
Does a gambling block affect my credit score?
No. It is a spending control on your own account, not a credit action — Starling states this outright on its help page. It declines the transactions it is designed to catch and leaves the rest of the card working normally.
