The short answer
The sources linked here do not establish a customer-enabled gambling block for Bank of America credit cards, Bank of America debit cards and Bank of America virtual cards. Lock card is a broader card control. Every other card on the account. Bank of America locks each card separately — locking your physical card does not lock your virtual cards, and each virtual card has to be locked on its own. Lock one and a card you forgot about is still live.
What can Bank of America actually stop?
A documented control to consider: Lock card.
- Where it is
- Bank of America Mobile Banking app → Manage Debit/Credit Card → swipe left on the card → Lock
- What it stops
- Use of the specific card you locked, until you unlock it.
- What still gets through
- Every other card on the account. Bank of America locks each card separately — locking your physical card does not lock your virtual cards, and each virtual card has to be locked on its own. Lock one and a card you forgot about is still live.
- Undo delay
- No gambling-specific delay is documented in the sources reviewed. Confirm the unlock rules for your account.
What doesn't it cover?
- No consumer-facing gambling toggle exists on any Bank of America product we could verify.
- Discretionary declines are not a plan. The bank says it *may* deny these transactions; nothing obliges it to, and nothing tells you whether it did.
- Virtual cards you have forgotten about, which stay usable when the physical card is locked.
What works instead at Bank of America?
In this order, tonight, while the resolve is there.
- 1 Self-exclude from every betting app and casino you hold an account with; that ban is enforceable in a way a card lock is not.
- 2 Enroll in your state's self-exclusion program where one exists.
- 3 Lock every card, physical and virtual, one at a time — Bank of America will not do them together.
- 4 Add a device-level blocker so the deposit page never loads.
- 5 Ask Bank of America to note the account, understanding that any gambling declines it applies are discretionary and undocumented, not a feature you control.
Is a bank block enough on its own?
A card control does not close a gambling account or necessarily restrict other payment methods. Consider combining it with: self-exclude inside each betting app, your state's self-exclusion program where one exists, and a device-level gambling blocker. The full method is in the guide to blocking gambling transactions at your bank. If you want the number that makes the case, work out what this is costing you a year.
