The short answer
Maryland residents can self-exclude from gambling through Voluntary Exclusion Program (VEP), run by Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency. Exclusion periods: 2 years or lifetime. Separate voluntary exclusion lists for Maryland casinos, sports wagering (retail and mobile), the Maryland Lottery, electronic instant bingo halls, and daily fantasy sports; casino exclusion also blocks sports wagering at casinos and their affiliated mobile sportsbooks.

How do I get off the Maryland self-exclusion list?
Removal at the end of a two-year Maryland term is not automatic. It requires a problem gambling assessment by a licensed professional, completion of any recommended treatment, documentation less than a year old, and agency approval.
- Can it be ended early?
- No. The term you pick is the term you serve.
- At the end of the term
- You stay on the list until you apply to come off. Reaching the end date on its own does nothing.
- 1 Complete your two-year term.
- 2 Have a licensed professional carry out a problem gambling assessment.
- 3 Complete any treatment that assessment recommends.
- 4 Submit documentation less than a year old and wait for agency approval.
Maryland runs each list separately - casino, sports wagering, lottery, bingo and fantasy. Coming off one leaves you on the others, and violating any of them subjects you to arrest for criminal trespass.
Worth saying plainly: wanting off the list is not the same as being ready to gamble again, and the urge to check usually arrives long before the term does. What actually happens when people come off a self-exclusion list goes through that in full.
What should I watch out for with Maryland self-exclusion?
Each list is a separate sign-up (casino, sports wagering, lottery, bingo, fantasy). Enrollment is in person only and requires government photo ID. Removal after a 2-year term is not automatic: it requires a problem gambling assessment by a licensed professional, completion of any recommended treatment, documentation less than a year old, and agency approval. Violating the exclusion subjects you to arrest for criminal trespass.
Is self-exclusion enough on its own in Maryland?
Maryland's program only binds operators licensed in the state — offshore sites and crypto casinos ignore it. The setup that holds is layered: self-exclusion, plus a ban inside each betting app you hold, plus a gambling-blocking software on every device plus a card block that stops the deposit itself. Gambling across the Maryland line?
A state program only binds operators licensed in that state. If you drive to a casino or bet on an app registered next door, you need that state's ban too.
